While planning a move to UAE, the strict compliance of rules is a must. One should keep an eye on certain important things while planning the move. Here we describe the documents required for the shipment of:

Household Goods:

• Copy of the Passport
• Visa
• Bill of Lading
• Letter of authorization
• Detailed Packing list in English
• Diplomats must carry the diplomatic card

Note: Without the visa or passport, the shipments will not be cleared. The household goods are exempted from the customs duty. The time taken for the clearance of shipment is 3-5 days for the air shipment and 4-7 for the shipment for the ships. If the shipments are not cleared for 10 or more days, it will be chargeable from the first day.

Motor Vehicles:

• Copy of Residence visa on passport
• Residence Permit
• Copy of invoice of the purchase
• Proof of ownership
• Registration card from the country it is being imported with the details like color, engine number etc.

Note: Prior to the shipment of the vehicle, the owner must be in UAE and all the necessary documents should be in possession of the customs department. The duty will be applicable at the rate of 5% on every vehicle. There is a restriction on the imports of vehicles with tinted glass and only left handed four wheeler is allowed.

Pets could be imported with a few formalities like you will have to take the permission from the embassy. The documents required are the passport of the owner, residence visa of owner, veterinary health certificate and the certificate of vaccination.

Restricted Items:

There are items that have few restrictions regarding their import into United Arab Emirates, but if these are carried in a limit, they could be duty free. These limits include 500 gms of tobacco, 50 cigars and 500 cigarettes.

Prohibited Items:

After covering the list of those items like motor vehicles, household items, restricted items, there is a long list of items that are completely prohibited from import. The small list of these prohibited items is given below:

• Narcotics
• Military uniforms
• Food items containing Pork
• Gambling Games
• Alcohols
• Pornographic material
• Weapons of all kinds
• Toxic and Radioactive material
• Statues of humans (especially nude)
• Items having Israeli origin.
• Radio or wireless transmitters
